The Chamber Chorale of Fredericksburg was founded in 1989 as a small ensemble dedicated to performing quality choral music in a wide variety of styles for the cultural enrichment of the community. From a capella singing to major chamber works with orchestra, this 24-voice group has been noted for its fine tuning, blended tone, wide range in dynamics, and expressive diversity.
Under the direction of Rebecca Tyree, CCF performs three annual concerts in the Fredericksburg area and participates in various regional events and concert series around the state. Noteworthy performances have included:
Last year, the chorale expanded to include the Children's Chorus, under the direction of Susan Onderdonk.
- The Fredericksburg Festival of the Arts Annual Music Festival in 1996
- the commission and world premiere of two works by Virginia composers in 1999
- Lakeside United Methodist Church Concert Series in Richmond in 2000

"The entire program was impressive and delightful in its range of style and texture... It was extremely encouraging to witness your commitment to maintaining such a high technical and artistic standard in the tradition of choral singing."
"I don't think I have ever enjoyed a choral concert more in my whole life. To think people will go to D.C. and spend 20 times as much at the Kennedy Center for a concert when they have one just as outstanding if not more so, right here in Fredericksburg."
Rebecca Tyree has served as the Music Director of CCF for nine years. Under her direction, the Chorale has expanded its size, repertoire, and number of its performances. She embraces the immense challenge of programming and preparing the dedicated singers in the Chorale. As Artistic Director, she has brought fine regional soloists and instrumentalists to perform with CCF each season. Rebecca is the Director of Choirs at Hermitage High School in Richmond where she conducts six choirs and maintains a vibrant program. She was named Music Educator of the Year for the Henrico County Public Schools in 2000. She has served as adjunct faculty at VCU, Musical Director for Fredericksburg Theatre Company, Music Coach for the Avery Ballet, adjudicator for various music festivals, and guest conductor in Maryland and Virginia. Rebecca holds a BME from VCU in Richmond and an MM from the University of Maryland, College Park.
In 2001 the Chamber Chorale founded a Children's Chorus. This choir, directed by Susan Onderdonk, provides enriching music education as well as rewarding performance opportunities for talented young voices in the region. The Children's Chorus consists of treble voices ages 9-13, hosts up to 40 members, and sings in two concerts annually.
Susan Onderdonk, the founding director of the Children's Chorus of the Chamber Chorale of Fredericksburg, has worked professionally as a church musician for over twenty years. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree magna cum laude from James Madison University and a Master of Arts from the University of Iowa. Susan has given organ recitals on the east coast and in the Midwest and has been featured as a vocal soloist in Europe and the US. Her church positions have included serving Episcopal, United Methodist, Roman Catholic, and Presbyterian congregations. Currently, Susan is Director of Music at Fairfax Presbyterian Church in Fairfax, Virginia.
